About Fibre

WHAT IS FIBRE?

Fibre is a carbohydrate that is made up of the parts of plants that cannot be digested by the stomach.

WHY DO WE NEED FIBRE IN OUR DIETS?

Fibre is essential in maintaining a healthy and active digestive system, as well as helping to lower blood cholesterol and blood sugar levels. WHICH FOODS ARE HIGH IN FIBRE?

Examples of foods which are high in fibre content are:
  • Breakfast cereals with barley, wheat or oats
  • Wholemeal and multigrain bread
  • Legumes & lentils
  • Green leafy vegetables
  • Fruits, such as strawberries, raspberries, pears, and apples
